Gunmen kill dozens in Nigeria attack
Dozens of people have died during simultaneous attacks by gunmen on several villages in Kaduna state, northern Nigeria.
Residents described gunmen arriving in large groups on Sunday before shooting people and burning down homes.
Police are still assessing the number of casualties but witnesses say that around 50 people were killed and many others injured.
Attacks of this nature are commonplace in the region, where armed gangs and militant groups also carry out kidnappings for ransom.
These latest attacks came a few weeks after the Nigerian police launched a series of raids on militant groups camped in the dense forest nearby.
The ongoing insurgency of Boko Haram in the north of Nigeria, means the government is under increasing pressure to address the country’s security challenges.
