Oshoala Named African Women’s Player Of The Year

Asisat Oshoala, Super Falcons forward, has been crowned the 2019 African Women’s Player of the Year, beating Cameroons Ajara Nchout and South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana to the punch.

The Nigerian sports superstar has previously been crowned winner back in 2014, 2016 and 2017 and has now equalled the record of her mentor Perpetua Nkwocha.

Oshoala has continually made it into the top three running for Women’s Player of the Year and with the 2019 crown now firmly on her head, her skill as one of Africa’s greatest female players is in no doubt.

The 2019 CAF Player of the Year was also named, with Senegalese forward Sadio Mane beating Liverpool teammate Mohammed Salah and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez to the title.

Mane has been a finalist in three previous shortlists for the CAF Player of the Year, however this is the first time he is taking home the silverwear.

Mane was Senegal's main man at the 2019 AFCON where he netted three goals on the Teranga Lions' path to the final where they lost by a solitary goal to Algeria. He netted a brace in the 3-0 group phase victory over Kenya and added one more in the round of 16 1-0 win over Uganda.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles duo, Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen failed to win the African Youth Player of the Year, losing to Morocco and Dortmund star Achraf Hakimi.

The 21-year-old has been in scintillating form for the Signal Iduna Park outfit since teaming up with the side and last season he played a significant role as BVB finished as runners-up in the Bundesliga.
