Senegal’s Ndiaye Appointed New Horoya Coach

Senegalese coach Lamine Ndiaye has been appointed the new coach of Guinean side Horoya, signing a three-year deal that will see him at the club until the end of 2022.

He replaces Didier Gomes Da Rosa, who was sacked having failed to reach the African Champions League semi-finals, the stated target that was signed into his contract.

Ndiaye, 63, becomes Horoya’s third coach of the year, and has been set the same target as his predecessor of reaching the African Champions League semi-final.

An experienced coach, Ndiaye has been at the helm of club sides all over Africa, including Cameroon’s Coton Sport Garoua, Morocco’s Magreb Fez, TP Mazembe of DR Congo and Sudanese side Al-Hilal.

He’s seen considerable success over the years, notably with TP Mazembe, where he won two African Super Cups and the African Champions League in 2010.

He took the side to the final of the Club World Cup, losing only to Italian giants Inter Milan 3-0 in the UAE, becoming the first African side to reach the final of the competition.

A former midfielder, Ndiaye represented Senegal at international level, and played some of his football in Europe with French side Cannes.

He began his coaching career in France, where he became the first African to take charge of a professional league side when he coached FC Mulhouse in Ligue 2.

Ndiaye took over as caretaker manager of the Senegalese national team during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, following the resignation of Polish coach Henri Kazperczak, who left before they exited the tournament during the group stage.
