Sports Fund must build football, not cover old problems - Kofi Adams

Ghana's Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says the Ghana Sports Fund should be used to strengthen the country's sporting system rather than finance existing challenges.

Speaking at the Ghana Football Association's 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, Adams urged football stakeholders to focus on building sustainable structures that will benefit the game in the long term.

He described the Sports Fund as a key government instrument that should drive investment across football and other sports.

"Football will certainly benefit from the Fund, but let me be clear. It cannot become another account from which we finance existing problems. It must build capacity," he told delegates.

The minister said funding should produce measurable improvements across the game, from youth development to coaching and club administration.

"If we invest in Colts football, we must see players developed. If we invest in coaching, we must see qualified coaches working. If we invest in facilities, they must be used. If we invest in clubs, we must see stronger institutions," he said.
