Ghana’s NDC Postpones 37 Primaries

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana has announced a delay to the holding of parliamentary primaries in 37 constituencies. The primaries had been scheduled for Sunday August 24. 

The affected constituencies are in the North Eastern, Northern, Western, Central, Volta, Eastern, Ashanti, Bono and the Ahafo regions.

According to the party’s General Secretary, Asiedu Nketia, the NDC National Executive Committee (NEC) has determined to conduct primaries for the 2020 elections progressively.

In the Volta Region the party’s executive committee has announced an end to a ban on campaign activities ahead of the primaries. Filing of nomination forms commences from July 18, with vetting of aspirants to follow next week. While male aspirants hoping to compete are required to make a non-refundable deposit GHS25,000 upon submission, females and persons with disabilities face a reduced fee of GHS12,500.
