Ghana Raises Water, Electricity Tariffs
The Government of Ghana has announced tariff increases for water and electricity.
The water tariff will increase by just over 8 per cent starting in July, while the electricity tariff has been increased by 11.7 per cent.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission Mami Dufie Ofori factors accounting for the increase include the depreciation of the Cedi against the US dollar, an expected rise in inflation and growing demand for the utilities.
"The key objective of the tariff review was to sustain the financial viability of the utility service providers as well as ensuring the delivery of quality service to consumers," Mrs Ofori told media
