Ivory Coast Power Exports Decline
Ivory Coast’s power exports have declined, falling by 12 per cent in 2018 to 1,078 gigawatt hours (Gwh). The decrease was confirmed by utility the Compagnie Ivoirienne d'Electricité (CIE).
The fall was recorded over several markets, including Ghana, Togo, Benin, Mali and Burkina Faso, in some case due to requested reductions and in others as a result of restrictions on transit capacity.
Despite a 16 per cent growth in the number of consumers domestic sales rose by just 1 per cent, from 6,636 Gwh to 6,695 Gwh between 2017 and 2018.
Ivory Coast has previously announced plans to add 643 megawatts (MW) to its network by 2021 by expanding Azito Energie’s power station and increasing the capacity of electricity producer CIPREL. Current production stands at around 2,200 MW.
