Ghana and Gabon confirm their first coronavirus cases

The governments of Ghana and Gabon have confirmed the first reported cases of coronavirus in their respective countries, after both nations suspended foreign travel for their foreign officials.

Ghana’s Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu said that the patients had arrived from Norway and Turkey before testing positive for the virus.

Authorities say the two patients are being isolated and are in a stable condition.

In Gabon, government spokesman Edgard Anicet Mboumbou Miyako said the patient was a Gabonese national who’d arrived from France.

The patient is also being kept in an isolation facility and the government is trying to make contact with those who have come into contact with him.

On Wednesday, Ghanian President Nana Akufo-Addo pledged $100 million to increase preparations and improve response to the virus nationwide.
